Fancy Folly

William Seward was first to realize the true value of the Danish West Indies and wanted to purchase the islands, but Congress, already weary of Seward’s multi-million dollar Alaska Folly, voted it down. Later, in 1917, the U.S. changed its mind and quickly bought these islands, known today as the U. S. Virgin Islands. Thanks to the dreamer, Mr. Seward.
